Project Description
Crowns (Caps) and Bridges (Fixed Partial Denture)
Your teeth are unique. Every now and then, you need a unique solution. Crowns and bridges can be an excellent option for many dental issues.
A crown is considered a restorative and preventative procedure. You may be restoring a damaged tooth, but you’re also protecting it from further damage. Most crowns are either made from metal or porcelain. Porcelain crowns will give your smile a more natural look. When you have a crown placed, you are strengthening your tooth, and the overall appearance of your smile. It’s not uncommon to use crowns for cosmetic purposes, or to fix a denture. Sometimes, a crown is used to seal a completed root canal.
If you are missing a tooth, you may wish to have a bridge. A bridge uses crowns to secure the prosthetic. Using a fake (pontic) tooth to replace the missing tooth, the crowns will be fitted on to the teeth next to the gap. This allows for the pontic tooth to span across, creating a bridge. This procedure can also be used for more than one missing tooth. Bridges are fixed, and that is how they are different from dentures. Dentures are removable, while bridges must be removed by a professional. Make an appointment today, and we can discuss which option is best for you.
